My name is Veronica Kararwa Self-Discovery and Inner wellness coach. I help women discover their potential, build their personal confidence and resilience, grow internally, and transcend challenging times with grace, so they can step into their personal power and impact their world. I am a published author, a Registered Mental Health Nurse and a Trained Dialectical Behaviour Therapist (DBT) with 2 decades of experience working with people presenting with complex mental health problems. Am also a mother of two boys. and Founder of Kevin Kararwa Leukaemia Trust (KKLT). KKLT is a charity that was founded after the death of my son Kevin after failing to get a stem cell donor. The trust educates and encourages people, particularly from the BME communities here in the UK, to register as potential stem cell donors and save lives.
The treatments Kevin underwent were no match for the aggressive leukemia. He needed a bone-marrow transplant. Despite a global campaign that included major UK media channels like ITV, BBC, the Evening Standard, African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT), as well as the support of our UK community of friends and family, a 100% bone-marrow match could not be found. Doctors decided that Kevin’s only chance was his brother, Ian, who was a 50% match.
Unfortunately, 50% was not enough. Kevin left us on 20th May 2014 at the age of 24. Life and work lost meaning. I sunk into deep depression questioning my faith and struggling to cope with the grief and myriad of emotions within. I also worried about Ian who was also coping with the grief of losing his brother whilst still attending college.
My GP (Doctor) prescribed antidepressants but, despite his good intentions, I did not want to rely on medicines that can have severe side effects. So I decided to go on a journey of understanding and gently healing the root of my pain. That’s when my A.C.C.E.P.T.A.N.C.E. experience was born. I discovered how to find my way back from that valley experience to a place of hope, light and inner peace. Now I help other professionals in-transition do the same.
